Our History

The Pimpi is one of the most emblematic places in Málaga and it has become in it´s over 40 years of existence, in a meeting place for all Malagueños, young and old, and a place that all tourists want to visit when they arrive.

1971

Pepe Cobos and Paco Campos, two men from Córdoba, arrive in Málaga with the intention of managing a wine cellar and they founded El Pimpi.

1971

The poet Gloria Fuertes created the literary gatherings called “Gloria´s Fridays”.

1971

Málaga University and the Pimpi were born. Since it´s beginnings Málaga University has had a classroom in our halls.Master classes in Flamencology and summer classes.

1972

The contest called “young poetry” to support new poets and they count with the support of Antonio Gala, Gloria Fuertes, Rafael Pérez Estrada and Pepe Mercado as jury.

1993

Filming of some scenes in the mini series “Young Picasso” directed by Juan Antonio Bardem.

2006

Filming and press meeting of the movie "Road of the English" directed by Antonio Banderas.

2011

The Association of Writers of Málaga distinguished us as the Company of the Year.

2012

The "El Pimpi Monday´s" begin, a weekly meeting with literature, culture and Málaga art in the cellar´s emblematic Dovecote.

2013

Forty years after the original contest, the prize for young poetry returns..

2013

Pimpi receives "Prize for the most enterprising" by the listeners of the local Cope radio station.

2013

In reference to the Day of Andalucía, the regional government gives an award to the Pimpi.

2013

The Royal Accademy of Fine Arts of San Telmo awards the medal of honor to the Pimpi in an Act in the Hall of Mirrors in the City Town Hall.

2013

The Pimpi receives the prize “Sentir Málaga”- on behalf of the Málaga XXI Association to the best Company.

2015

Pepe Cobos Abanderado of the Málaga Fair, honor that is conceded by the Málaga Central Historic Association.

2015

Pepe Cobos begins to promote the bull egg tomato, him being the main promoter of this high quality local Málaga product.

2016

Pepe Cobos is chosen to be the Coín Holy Week Crier.

2016

Pepe Cobos crier of the Feast of the Goat of Málaga in Casabermeja.

2017

The El Pimpi Foundation is born, a foundation for Málaga, which supports its culture, traditions and social problems of utmost urgency within the city.

2018

Lunares begins: a passion for Malaga culture with the help of the El Pimpi Foundation.

2019

El Pimpi receives the award of The Best Digital Restaurant Indie 2019 Expo HIP2019 in Madrid.

2021

El Pimpi is included as a 2021 Summer Sun in the Repsol Guide.

2024

The iconic wine bar El Pimpi arrives exclusively at Puente Romano Beach Resort.
